Study Permit
A Student Permit is an official document that allows foreign nationals to study in Canada at a designated learning institution (DLI). This permit grants the holder the legal right to engage in academic, professional, vocational, or other forms of education or training in Canada. However, it’s important to note that not all educational institutions are designated. Before applying for a student permit, you must verify that the institution is authorized to enroll international students. For example, elementary and high schools are designated learning institutions.

If the program of study is six months or less, a study permit is not required.

As of November 2022, the Canadian government has issued new regulation that require that you not only be registered with an educational institution to study at an accredited Canadian university or college. While registration is necessary, you must also apply for and obtain a proof of attestation letter from the province where the educational institution is located. If you apply for a study permit without this confirmation, your application will be rejected.
