Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
The PNP allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who want to settle in a specific province or territory and contribute to its economic growth. Successful nominees can apply for permanent residence in Canada.
1
Who is eligible for the PNP?
Each Canadian province (e.g., Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan) has its own specific criteria. Generally, they require the following:
-
In-Demand Profession: Having experience in a field that the province currently needs (e.g., in Health, Technology, Agriculture).
-
Connection to the Province: Having a relative living in that province, or having studied or worked in that province previously.
-
Job Offer: Having received an offer of employment from an employer located within that province.
Note: Since the province of Quebec has its own distinct selection system, it is not included in this program.
2
Why PNP?
When competing solely through Express Entry, many candidates may have a low CRS Score. However, if you are Nominated by a province:
-
You receive an additional 600 points on your Express Entry profile.
-
This means that receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) to come to Canada in the next draw becomes guaranteed.
To give you context: In a typical Express Entry draw, the cutoff score usually hovers between 450 and 540.
-
If you have a score of 300 (which is too low) and you get a Provincial Nomination, your score becomes 900.
-
This score is well above any cutoff, effectively securing your path to Permanent Residence.
