Children Sponsorship

Canada’s Family Sponsorship Program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their dependent children for permanent residency. This program applies to both natural-born and adopted children, providing an opportunity for families to live together in Canada.

To successfully sponsor your child, both you as the sponsor and your dependent children must meet the eligibility criteria set by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Who Can Be Sponsored as a Dependent Child?

A child is considered a dependent under the following conditions:

  • Age Requirement: The child must be under 22 years old.

  • Marital Status: The child must be unmarried and not in a common-law relationship.

Children over the age of 22 may still qualify as dependents if they suffer from a physical or mental disability that makes them reliant on their parents for support.
