This sponsorship program allows families to reunite under specific guidelines and conditions, offering a pathway for parents and grandparents to join you in Canada.

Eligibility to Sponsor Parents and Grandparents
To sponsor your parents or grandparents for permanent residency, you must meet the following requirements:

Be at least 18 years old.

Reside in Canada.

Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a registered Indian under the Indian Act.

Meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) requirement.

Commit to providing financial support for the sponsored family members.
Additionally, you will need to submit an Expression of Interest to sponsor your parents or grandparents through Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). If you are selected, you will receive an invitation to apply for sponsorship.

Sponsor Commitments
When you sponsor your parents or grandparents, you agree to:

Financially support them for 20 years after they become permanent residents.

Repay any social assistance they receive during the sponsorship period.

Sign a sponsorship agreement, ensuring their basic needs (food, housing, clothing, etc.) are met.

How to Apply

Submit Interest to Sponsor: During the annual intake period, provide your basic details (name, address, date of birth) to IRCC.

Receive Confirmation: If your submission is complete, you’ll receive a confirmation number.

Invitation to Apply: If selected, you will have 60 days to submit a complete sponsorship application.

Who Cannot Sponsor
You may be ineligible to sponsor a parent or grandparent if:

You are in prison.

You have an undischarged bankruptcy.

You failed to meet previous sponsorship obligations.
-
You have not paid court-ordered alimony or child support.

You have defaulted on an immigration loan.

You were convicted of a serious crime and have not received a record suspension.
Processing Time

The processing time for the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program typically ranges from 20 to 24 months.

Alternative Option: Super Visa
If you are not selected for sponsorship or need a quicker solution, consider the Super Visa. The Super Visa allows parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for up to 5 years per visit. This visa is valid for up to 10 years and is a multiple-entry permit.
